DancCIS (Dance + CIS) is the dance program of Communities In Schools of Wilkes County, NC, with a purpose to introduce the joy of dance to young women who may not be able to afford traditional dance training. Last season, 35 girls were served by the program, with nearly 60% returning from the previous year. The 2011 - 2012 season marks the 9th year of the program under the current format, with over 50 girls participating.
Classes meet one day a week from October to March with a basic dance program that introduces ballet the first portion of the year, and jazz dance the second. Along the way, students are exposed to a variety of fun other dance styles. With two yearly performances (one winter, one spring), the students get opportunities to show what they have learned to their family and friends.
At DanCIS, we firmly believe that dance should be fun first, but that it can also give body confidence, discipline, performance skills, and general poise that can be used throughout the life of any young lady. Every girl deserves to experience the joy of dance, and through DanCIS, we are able to offer that opportunity for them.
But We Can Not Do It Alone:
No DanCIS student pays for their dancewear, shoes, or instruction. We are only able to accomplish this through financial grants and individual donations. As our program continues to grow, so do our financial limitations. If you would like to help defray the costs for a dance student, please make checks payable to:
